The history of Smith Clan (Pvt) Ltd dates back to year 1984, for it was during this year that business activities both in Sri Lanka and Japan was founded by Mr.Sumith Ekanayake, during which period the entire country experienced the consequences of post 1977 era. Soon after the establishment of Nippon Lanka Corporation in Nagoya, Japan, Mr. Ekanayake ventured into the local business field. Targeting his pet subject, he entered the local market with the vision of commencing the pioneer company responsible for the Import and Sale of Brand New and re-conditioned vehicles in Sri Lanka, and as a result a related company in the name and style of Auto Collection Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. was formed which is now known as Smith Clan [Pvt] Ltd.
Subsequently TheOasis (Pvt) Ltd. of Hambantota, in southern Sri Lanka was formed catering to the needs of tourists exclusively for the German clientele. Adopting the same concept a hotel has been leased out in Germany and run by the Oasis [Pvt] Ltd by the name of Oasis Ayurveda Villa am Park, Bad orb, Germany. Ovin Gases (Pvt) Ltd., Manufacturer of industrial Gases, and Medical Oxygen, and Smith Foods (Pvt) Ltd., a BOI approved company for the Manufacture and Export of all types of coconut based products are all part of the Smith Clan Group of Companies.

Mr. Sumith Ekanayake a brilliant entrepreneur and a businessman of international fame was born on August 27th 1957. Having passed the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) in Sri Lanka, he left for Japan, where he successfully completed the Business Management Course at the Trident Advanced Business College (TABC), Nagoya, Japan in 1983. Thereafter, he commenced export of new and re-conditioned vehicles to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. During the last decade the export trade expanded rapidly due to hard work, commitment and honest/efficient business strategies. As a result he commenced exporting vehicles and spares to many countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the South American continents followed by Sri Lanka Pakistan, Tanzania, South Africa, UK, Chili, Peru, Argentina, Brazil and New Zealand.
While functioning as Vice President of the Business Council in Nagoya, Mr. Ekanayake is serving as a member of the Nagoya Motor Traders Association, Temple Development Project, Sri Lankan Temple “Sawara” in Tokyo, UNESCO contributor’s society, and in Sri Lanka as the Patron of Japan-Kakkapalliya Youth Orgainization.
